RED GARNET

Vedic Text

The toenails of Vala were transformed into red garnet seeds. These gem seeds were worshiped by the snake-god who carried them in their mouths and dropped them in the lands surrounding the Himalayas, where garnet mines then originated.

Although found in a variety of colors, shades of red are the most common with blackish-red, reddish-brown, and orange-brown being the most prominent. As with rubies, garnets colored like the petals of the red lotus are considered the rarest and most beautiful and possess the mystic virtue of increasing both the wealth and progeny of their owners. --- Sri Garuda Puranam: Chap. 77
